A Tribute To My Fuzzy Nephews
by Cathy Currea
Mugsy was a rescue Keeshond that came into out lives when he was one and half years old. I flew from SF to NY to be with my sister when he arrived since it was her first dog as an adult. The night before Mugsy arrived, I felt my mother In Spirit come to me. She told me that Mugsy was her dog, Beuli, reincarnated. My Mom further explained that she was sending Beuli to look after my sister and husband along with her son and daughter who were teenagers at the time.

Mugsy lived a full life. Although he came with some "emotional baggage" from his first home, he over came his demons to become a Delta certified Therapy Dog. He assisted my sister, who is a social worker, with her work and went to schools and hospitals, too. He was a star where ever he went. He gave from his heart and everyone who met him benefited from his love.
About a year or so ago, at age 11, Mugsy began to slow down. We supported him with holistic and Western medicine, along with regular Reiki treatments from me. Through the grace of our love and all that we gave him, Mugs was able to live his life happily for over nine months.
Then the call I hoped was at least a few weeks away came at 4:30am.I could here the urgency in my sister's voice, "Please ask him if he is ready and needs my assistance."
I knew in my heart that he was ready. When I tuned into Mugsy, he confirmed he could no longer stay in his body. I gathered my strength and told my sister that it was his time. And then I cried as I felt my heart shatter into a million pieces.
It's never easy to say goodbye to a beloved family member, is it? Thank goodness for animal communication and Reiki as they helped bring some solace to my family and me during such a difficult and emotional time.
I am grateful that I was able to offer Mugsy and my sister my gifts of animal communication and Reiki. By giving Mugsy a voice, we were able to honor his wishes on how he wanted to live out his life and what type of medical decisions to make based his input. The on-going Reiki treatments helped Mugsy's quality of life and each time he received a treatment, he seemed to have a spring in his step.
And when the call came, I was honored to help my fuzzy nephew make the transition home to Spirit.
When the news of Mugsy's passing spread across the Internet, the out pouring of love was incredible. Before my sister could take a deep breath, she was connected with a Keeshond puppy in Chicago.
Ten days later, another fuzzy became the newest edition to our family. I'd like you to introduce my new fuzzy nephew, Fozzie Bear.
Now I am supporting my sister from being an elder and hospice caregiver for an older animal companion to being overwhelmed with her brand new fuzzy puppy. And of course, grieving for our beloved Mugsy, now one of our guardian Angels.
